Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 large sweet potatoes large sweet potatoes (1 per person) Look for firm, smooth-skinned sweet potatoes. Organic is always a great choice if you can find them.
  • 2 tablespoons drizzle of olive oil Extra virgin olive oil works wonders for flavor and healthy fats.
  • to taste teaspoon mineral salt Sea salt is preferred for that lovely crunch.
  • optional light dusting of cornmeal This adds an extra layer of crispiness, making your fries even crunchier!
  • to taste optional spices Use garlic powder, ground chipotle, thyme, cayenne, and smoked paprika for flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F if you’re hand-cutting your fries or 350°F for the julienne method.
  2. Wash the sweet potatoes and slice them thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) if hand cutting. For shoestring fries, julienne them for that classic fry texture.
  3. Toss the sweet potato slices in a large bowl with a drizzle of olive oil, mineral salt, and your choice of optional spices. Make sure each piece is evenly coated!
Baking
  1. Spread the coated fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Bake them for 15 minutes, then rotate the tray and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  3. Let them cool for a couple of minutes before enjoying. They’re best served immediately with your favorite condiments.

Notes

For the crispiest fries, ensure they are not overcrowded on the baking sheet. You can also freeze uncooked fries for quick baking later.
