Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar Use granulated white sugar for the best results. You can substitute with coconut sugar or a sugar alternative if desired.
  • 1 cup water Fresh, filtered water is ideal for the purest taste.
  • 2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen) Opt for ripe, juicy fresh blueberries when in season; however, frozen berries work perfectly too.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved, which should take about 2 minutes.
  2. Once the sugar is dissolved, add 2 cups of blueberries to the pot. Continue to gently boil for another 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
  3. Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to gently crush the berries to release more flavor.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the syrup to steep and cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  5. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out any blueberry solids from the syrup.
  6. Transfer the syrup to a glass jar with a lid and store in the fridge for about 2-3 weeks.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator to extend freshness. The syrup can be frozen in ice cube trays for easy portioning.
