Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened Use full-fat cream cheese for the richest flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened Room temperature butter is key for blending.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar A bit of sweetness to balance the cream cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract adds warmth.
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling Look for natural options with real fruit.
For the Pastry
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed Use a quality brand for that ideal flaky texture.
  • 1 large egg, beaten This will give the pinwheels a lovely golden finish.
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar For the sweet glaze.
  • 2-3 tablespoons whole milk Adjust for glaze consistency.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and spray a 9-inch oven-safe skillet with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, butter, and granulated sugar. Beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes. Mix in vanilla extract.
  3. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry into a 9x12-inch rectangle, 1/8 inch thick.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border.
  5. Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  6. Dampen the edges with a little water, roll the pastry into a tight log, and slice into 6 equal pieces.
Baking
  1. Arrange pinwheels cut-side up in the greased skillet and brush each with the beaten egg.
  2. Bake for 30-38 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. If they brown too quickly, cover lightly with foil.
  3. Allow to cool slightly, then whisk together confectioners sugar and milk to create a glaze. Drizzle generously over warm pinwheels.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Customize with different pie filling options.
