  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature) For easy mixing

  • 2 large eggs Ideally at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Use pure vanilla for maximum flavor
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Spoon it directly into your cup without packing for best results
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Recommended: Ghirardelli for deep flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder For soft interior
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Himalayan pink salt is favored
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Semi-sweet is classic; dark chocolate can also be used

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until no lumps remain.
  5. Gradually add dry mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring until just blended.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips gently with a spatula.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but the center remains slightly soft.
  2. Let cool on baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or frozen for up to three months. Customize by adding nuts or using different types of chocolate.
