Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large croissants Use fresh, flaky croissants for the best texture and flavor.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips add the perfect amount of sweetness.
  • 4 large eggs Ensure they are room temperature for even mixing.
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk gives a richer flavor, but feel free to use any dairy or non-dairy milk.
  • 1/2 cup sugar Granulated sugar is traditional, but brown sugar adds a hint of molasses flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Don’t skimp on quality here—it makes a world of difference!
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances sweetness and balances flavors.
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional) A light dusting for a beautiful finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Cut the croissants into bite-sized pieces, ideally about 1-inch cubes. Place half of them in the prepared dish and sprinkle half of the chocolate chips over them.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour half of this mixture over the croissant pieces.
  4. Add the remaining croissant pieces and sprinkle the rest of the chocolate chips on top. Pour the remaining egg mixture over everything, gently pressing down.
  5. Allow the bake to sit for about 15 minutes to soak up the custard.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Let it cool for about 5 minutes before serving warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired.
