Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil extends over the edges.
  3. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire baking sheet.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring until fully combined and bubbling (about 3-4 minutes).
  2. Carefully pour the melted mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading evenly with a spatula.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  4. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top, allowing them to soften for a minute.
  5. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee layer using a spatula.
  6. If desired, add optional toppings such as chopped nuts or crushed candy canes before the chocolate sets.
Cooling
  1. Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, then break into pieces.
