Ingredients

For the bars
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Keep it fresh! If you can, buy organic or high-quality flour for the best texture.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar This adds sweetness; you can reduce it a tad if you prefer less sugar.
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder Make sure it’s fresh for better rise.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A must for that warm flavor!
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, melted Always use unsalted to control the salt levels in your recipe.
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature eggs work best!
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Opt for pure vanilla for a deeper flavor.
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar, packed This is key for that gooey goodness.
  • 0.5 cups chopped pecans or walnuts (optional) I love adding nuts for crunch, but feel free to skip if you prefer.
Cinnamon mixture
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until fully combined.
  3. Pour in the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix gently until just combined—don’t overmix!
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly distributed.
Layering
  1. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture on top.
  2. Using a spoon, dollop the remaining batter over the cinnamon layer, followed by the rest of the cinnamon mixture.
  3. Use a knife to gently swirl the two layers together for that beautiful marbled effect.
Baking
  1. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the middle. It should spring back when lightly pressed.
  2. Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes before cutting them into bars.

Notes

For perfect texture, don't overmix the batter. Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the fridge for up to a week. You can prepare the batter a day ahead and bake just before serving.
