Basic Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk for icing
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for icing

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until creamy and smooth.
  4. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just blended; be careful not to overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
  6. Spread half the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon mixture.
  7. Pour the remaining batter over the top and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon mixture over the batter, swirling it in gently.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. For the icing, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth, then drizzle over the warm cake before serving.

Notes

For better flavor, use fresh ground cinnamon and high-quality unsalted butter. Serve with powdered sugar or whipped cream for extra elegance. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
