Ingredients

Fruit Filling
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries Look for bright, plump berries. Frozen cranberries can be used if thawed first.
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and sliced A mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works best.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust according to sweetness preference.
Oat Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats Old-fashioned oats provide the best texture.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Use light brown sugar for a caramel flavor.
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Room temperature for easy mixing; can swap for coconut oil.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds a warming flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine cranberries, sliced apples, and granulated sugar. Toss to coat the fruit evenly.
  3. Spread the fruit mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the fruit.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly.
  2. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream.

Notes

For extra crunch, toast the oats before adding them to the mixture. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
