Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean beef for a healthier option or swap for ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced A sweet onion adds a nice touch
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic makes a noticeable difference in flavor
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust according to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground enhances flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning A blend can sometimes add more depth
  • 2 cups beef broth Low-sodium is a healthier alternative
  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce Choose a brand that uses high-quality tomatoes
  • 2 1/2 cups medium pasta shells Feel free to use gluten-free pasta
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar adds an extra flavor kick
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream For a lighter option, substitute with half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped For garnish, enhances presentation and freshness

Method

Cooking the Beef
  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it starts to brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Season the beef mixture with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir well to incorporate the spices.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and tomato sauce, stirring until combined and bubbly.
  5. Add the medium pasta shells, ensuring they are fully submerged in the liquid.
  6. Bring to a simmer, then cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
  7. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and part of the creamy sauce.
  8. Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine, allowing to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  9. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Ingredient quality matters; using high-quality ground beef and fresh ingredients will enhance flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You can prepare ahead of time and reheat when ready to eat.
