Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Go for high-quality butter like Kerrygold for richer taste.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Organic or cane sugar adds depth in flavor.
  • 4 large eggs Free-range eggs yield richer flavor and color.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Use pure vanilla extract for the best results.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Consider using King Arthur Flour for consistent quality.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing it with butter and lightly dusting it with flour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Add the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, using a spatula to smooth the top.
  7. Place in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, serve plain or sprinkle with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.

Notes

If you want to add an extra touch, serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh berries on the side. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
