Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups Frito Corn Chips Use classic Fritos for the authentic taste that balances sweetness with saltiness.
  • 1 cup Butter (unsalted, room temperature) Room temperature butter ensures a smooth caramel without the grainy texture.
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (packed) Light brown sugar gives a milder flavor, while dark brown will add richness.
  • 14 oz Sweetened Condensed Milk This is crucial for that luscious caramel texture.
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Ghirardelli or Nestlé chips work wonders for melting and flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Opt for pure vanilla extract for a better flavor profile, but imitation will work in a pinch.
Optional Toppings
  • to taste Crushed nuts, sprinkles, or mini M&Ms Add for a little extra fun!

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), and line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper (or spray with non-stick spray).
  2. Spread 4 cups of Frito corn chips evenly across the bottom of the lined baking dish.
Making Caramel
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of butter, 1 cup of brown sugar, and 14 oz of sweetened condensed milk.
  2. Stir continuously until the mixture bubbles and reaches a deep golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
Assembly
  1. Carefully pour the caramel over the Fritos, spreading evenly with a spatula.
  2. Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel and let them sit for about 5 minutes to melt.
  3. Spread the melted chocolate to cover the entire top layer.
Cooling & Serving
  1. Allow to cool at room temperature, or place in the fridge for 30-60 minutes until set.
  2. Once hardened, lift out using parchment paper, cut into squares or bars, and serve.
