Ingredients

For the Pie
  • 1 piece Pie Crust Use store-bought or make from scratch using butter for richer flavor.
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit (Apples, berries, or peaches) Opt for organic when possible for higher quality.
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated is common, but brown sugar can add deeper flavor.
  • 1/4 cup flour All-purpose flour helps thicken the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Freshly ground amplifies flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Freshly squeezed is best.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Use unsalted, at room temperature, for dotting on the pie filling.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix Your Filling: In a large bowl, combine the fruit, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix well until the fruit is evenly coated. Let this sit for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Crust: Pour the fruit mixture into the pie crust. Dot with small bits of butter atop the filling.
  4. Cover it Up: If using a second pie crust, carefully lay it on top and seal the edges. For a lattice top, cut the dough into strips and weave them over the filling.
Baking
  1. Bake to Perfection: Place your pie in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  2. Cool Before Serving: Once baked, allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes.

Notes

Use a pie shield or aluminum foil to protect the crust from excessive browning. Brush the crust with an egg wash for a glossy finish. For extra flavor, try adding nutmeg or ginger.
