Ingredients

Puff Pastry Layers
  • 2 sheets sheets puff pastry, thawed Ensure they are at room temperature for easy handling.
Filling
  • 12 slices slices of deli ham, thinly sliced Choose your favorite ham—smoky or honey-glazed for a twist.
  • 12 slices slices of cheese Cheddar, gouda, Swiss, or mozzarella work well.
  • 4 tbsp melted butter Adds rich flavor and helps crisp everything beautifully.
  • 2 tsp minced garlic Enhances the flavor.
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley Adds freshness and color.
  • 24 pieces wooden skewers To support the tree shape.
  • sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds Optional, for a festive touch.
  • to taste honey mustard or fig jam Optional, for a sweet-savory combo.
  • to taste star-shaped cheese cutouts For a decorative tree topper.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lay one puff pastry sheet on a clean surface, then layer the cheese slices followed by the ham slices. Place the second sheet of pastry on top and press down lightly to adhere.
  3. With a sharp knife, slice the layered pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  4. Take each strip and fold it back and forth onto a skewer to resemble a tree shape, pinching the base to secure the layers while shaping them.
  5. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Brush this mixture over each tree for added flavor and a golden finish.
Baking
  1. Place the skewers on the lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
  2. Cool slightly and serve. These trees are best enjoyed warm, but they hold up well at room temperature.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or up to a week in the fridge. These trees can be made ahead by prepping them and baking right before serving. For a gluten-free option, substitute with gluten-free puff pastry.
