Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated Look for high-quality cheese for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature is key! I love using Kerrygold for its creamy richness.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Standard is fine, but you can experiment with whole wheat for added flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust based on your taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional) This adds a lovely depth, but if you’re a purist, feel free to leave it out.
  • 2-3 tablespoons cold water Chilled water helps relax the dough.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese and softened butter. Use a fork or your hands to blend until it looks smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Add in your flour, salt, and garlic powder (if using) to the cheese mixture. Mix until crumbly (2-3 minutes).
  4. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time. Mix until the dough holds together (3-4 tablespoons total).
  5. Dust a clean surface with flour, then roll out the dough until it's about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Using a cookie cutter or a knife, cut the dough into desired shapes.
  7. Place the cut-out crackers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Baking
  1. Pop them in the oven and let them bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Store crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also freeze uncooked shapes for later baking.
