Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese and softened butter. Use a fork or your hands to blend until it looks smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
- Add in your flour, salt, and garlic powder (if using) to the cheese mixture. Mix until crumbly (2-3 minutes).
- Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time. Mix until the dough holds together (3-4 tablespoons total).
- Dust a clean surface with flour, then roll out the dough until it's about 1/8 inch thick.
- Using a cookie cutter or a knife, cut the dough into desired shapes.
- Place the cut-out crackers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Baking
- Pop them in the oven and let them bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack.
Notes
Store crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also freeze uncooked shapes for later baking.
