For the stromboli
  • 1 pound pizza dough Use homemade or store-bought; fresh dough recommended.
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce Choose a rich, flavorful variety.
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Freshly shredded for best meltiness.
  • 1/4 cup sliced pepperoni Substitute with salami, ham, or turkey if desired.
  • 1/4 cup sliced green bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives Optional; omit if not liked.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For brushing on top before baking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, approximately 12x15 inches.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce.
  5. Layer pepperoni, green bell peppers, sliced onions, mushrooms, and black olives evenly on top of the cheese.
  6. Sprinkle garlic powder, oregano, and dried basil over the fillings.
  7. Starting from one of the longer edges, roll the dough into a log shape, pinching the ends to seal.
  8. Place the stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Brush the top with olive oil.
  10. Make a few slits on the top with a sharp knife.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve warm.
