Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use high-quality butter for a rich flavor.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Makes the cookies sweet and perfectly tender.
  • 1 large egg Ensure it's at room temperature for easier incorporation.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Opt for pure vanilla for the best flavor.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Sifted for an even texture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda For a slight rise.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until thoroughly combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring just until blended.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  7. Flatten each dough ball to about 1/4 inch thick using the bottom of a glass or your palm.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove cookies and let cool on the baking sheets for a minute before transferring to wire racks to finish cooling completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes can enhance flavor.
