Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature Use high-quality butter for the richest flavor.
  • 2 large eggs Should be at room temperature.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp butter extract (optional) For an extra buttery flavor.
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
For the Glaze
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Batter Creation
  1. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy—about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and optional butter extract. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined.
Shaping
  1. Form uniform balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space in between.
  2. Gently flatten each ball to create uniform discs.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden edges appear with soft centers. Let them rest on the baking trays for a few minutes before transferring.
Glaze Construction
  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in granulated sugar and water until dissolved. Remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract.
Finishing
  1. Drizzle or brush the glaze generously over the warm cookies, allowing it to seep in.
  2. Let cookies cool completely and allow the glaze to solidify.

Notes

Keep cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can freeze the dough for up to 3 months for fresh cookies anytime.
