Ingredients

Beef and Marinade
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced Use good quality beef for the best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Opt for low-sodium soy sauce if watching your salt intake.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce Adds a wonderful depth of umami.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Helps create a velvety sauce while also tenderizing the beef.
Cooking Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil A high smoke point oil like canola or grapeseed works well.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic really elevates the dish.
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced Adds warmth and a light zesty note.
  • ¼ cup beef broth Adds moisture and richness.
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce Sweet and tangy with a touch of spice.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional) Adds a lovely nutty flavor at the end.
  • 3 cups cooked jasmine rice The perfect base to soak up all that delicious sauce.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef sirloin with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove beef from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Toss in sliced onions and bell peppers into the pan. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the pan, pour in beef broth and hoisin sauce, stirring to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. If desired, drizzle with sesame oil before serving.
  6. Serve it over a bed of fragrant jasmine rice.
