Cracker Base
  • 3 cups Rice Krispies cereal Look for the original Rice Krispies brand for the best results.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Use medium or sharp cheddar for robust flavor; grate your own for best meltability.
  • 1/2 cup butter Unsalted butter at room temperature for smooth melting.
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder A must for added depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder For savory goodness.
  • to taste none salt Enhances cheesy flavors.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, stirring occasionally until fully liquid (2-3 minutes).
  3. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt until smooth (1-2 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and combined.
  5. In a large bowl, combine Rice Krispies with the cheese mixture, ensuring each piece is coated.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the mixture evenly to about ½ inch thick.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool on the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then break into cracker-sized pieces.
  9. Serve and enjoy your crunchy, cheesy homemade snack!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Can be prepared a day ahead; just store unbaked in the fridge. To troubleshoot, press down firmly before baking for firmer crackers.
