  • 1 gallon fresh apple cider Look for a high-quality, unfiltered cider for the best flavor.
  • 1 medium orange, sliced unpeeled Adds a lovely brightness to the drink.
  • 3 sticks cinnamon sticks Use whole sticks for the best infusion.
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed Reduce sugar for a less sweet cider.
  • 1 cup whiskey Use your favorite brand; bourbon and rye work well.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, add the fresh apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and light brown sugar.
  2. Heat the mixture until it begins to simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 30 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove the pot from the heat. Remove the cinnamon sticks and orange slices with a slotted spoon.
  4. Stir in the whiskey, adjusting the amount based on your taste.
  5. Pour the spiked cider into mugs and garnish with fresh apple slices and additional cinnamon sticks.
  6. For slow cooker method: Add all ingredients to a slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for 3-4 hours. Stir in the whiskey before serving.

Notes

Choose fresh, quality apple cider for the best outcome. You can prep this cider ahead and store it in the fridge (without whiskey) for up to 3 days. Consider adding other spices like cloves or ginger for extra warmth.
