Preparation
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely; this usually takes about 3-5 minutes. Chef's Tip: Keep an eye on it, as it can boil over if left unattended!
- Once dissolved, add the fresh cranberries to the sugar syrup. Allow them to boil for 1-2 minutes until they start to pop. Visual Cue: You’ll see them start to burst, which is a great sign you’re on the right track!
- Immediately remove from heat and let the cranberries sit in the syrup for several hours or overnight.
- After soaking, drain the cranberries but don’t rinse them! Roll them in an additional 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until they’re fully coated.
- Allow them to dry on a wire rack for about 30 minutes before using them as a stunning garnish on desserts or cocktails. Chef's Tip: For extra sparkle, dust with a little more sugar before serving!
Notes
Store your sugared cranberries in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. They can be kept at room temperature for a few days but refrigerate them for longer shelf life!
