- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix together egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the dough pieces in hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Be mindful of the frying temperature to avoid greasy or burned beignets. Keep fried beignets warm in a low-temperature oven.
