  • 1 large egg At room temperature.
  • 1/2 cup milk Whole or 2% milk works well.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use pure for best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Room temperature for better mixing.
  • vegetable oil for frying vegetable oil for frying Use oil with a high smoke point.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix together egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the dough pieces in hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  7. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Be mindful of the frying temperature to avoid greasy or burned beignets. Keep fried beignets warm in a low-temperature oven.
