  • 1/2 cup warm water About 110°F
  • 1/4 cup milk Whole milk gives a richer flavor
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Use good-quality butter for the best taste
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust to your preference
  • 1 tsp sugar Helps activate the yeast
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh is key for robust flavor
Cheese & Garnish
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Whole milk mozzarella recommended for creaminess
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Freshly grated yields the best flavor
  • Fresh parsley, chopped For garnish
  • Additional melted butter For brushing
  • Salt To taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, 1 tsp salt, melted butter, and milk. Once combined, add the yeast mixture and knead until a soft dough forms (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until it’s doubled in size (around 1 hour).
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) once the dough has risen.
Assembly & Baking
  1. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thick and cut it into 2-inch squares.
  2. In each square, layer garlic, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Stack the pieces of dough in a greased baking dish, layering them upright.
  4. Brush the tops generously with additional melted butter and sprinkle a bit of salt.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven, brush with more melted butter, and sprinkle with fresh parsley for garnish.
